| NaNo's over... |
[09 Jan 2006|09:48pm] |
...but I didn't finish my novel. And I want to. So I'm still writing it. I don't think I'll post related entries here, though, because as everyone knows NaNoWriMo is two months done. So any posts related to "The Wishing Stone", my NaNo2005, should visit my personal account, emerald_dawn. Yuppers.
See y'all next November.

[20 Nov 2005|10:30pm] |
I had wanted to write another 2000 or so words. But I do need to go to be now.
Guess tomorrow I'll have to write 6000 or something. At least I'll have the time. Field season is OVAH!

Whee! Finally, we meet Erasmus and Az! ^^
Did I mention Danae talks a lot?

And that is Danae, folks.
ETA: Did I mention the shameless word-padding of a song in another language and its translation? Hee.

Why is it that I'm struggling through 500 words and then I reintroduce Danae and suddenly I'm past 6000?
She talks a lot. Thank the gods.

Um...I've got 3900 ish words. Yeah. Pathetic. Am not at home computer, so I don't know the exact count. SO CLOSE TO 5000 WORDS. AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH~! Instead, I start writing Aladdin fanfiction that seems to want to evolve into its own original story. And then in science I was drawing and this creature gave me ANOTHER ghost of an idea. I tell ya, the world is conspiring against my novel.
Also, I have an orthordontis appointment and my math tutor today. Plus two days late math HW that I've been putting off and putting off and putting off. I'll probably keep putting it off. The packet isn't due till sometime next week, after all. @@ (Tho I was only absent two days...that makes the HW due tomorrow.)
So, basically, my free time is zilch and, and, and I don't know if I'll be able to write today either!
On a positive note, I saved a dog yesterday. *glows* Poor girl was wondering around the school, so I called the police to take her home. She had a collar, just no nametag. I hope she's okay. ;.; She was a sweet old thing. (She looked like a lab mix, except she was too small, and her muzzle was all white--from age, since her regular color was yellow. She was so thirsty too...)
*sigh*
I also know the mers' special power (y'know, like the Fae can speak to the wind, and the elves to alive things): their songs can be spun into cloth. ^^
Made, like, four more nano icons. Need to upload them to photobucket.

Day 3: Um...was sick, watched Spirited Away, got distracted by pretty SA fanfiction. Wrote nothing.
Day 4: DISNEYLAND!! Went on rides, marched in the 3 o'clock parade, watched the heartwrenchingly pretty fireworks show, got home around midnight and stayed up an extra hour talking to parents. Wrote nothing.
Day 5: It's not over yet but I got over 2000 words!

| The Second Day |
[02 Nov 2005|11:01pm] |
I have an idea for a mer, just not when I need them. ><
I'm under 2000 words by the second day, but in my defense, Tuesdays is Guard till 5 and today was Band Spectacular. I'll be able to write more the second half of November, when field season ends.
Maybe tomorrow I'll post an exerpt.
Figured out the dimensions of Egaria. About 950 miles long and 725 miles wide. About twice as big as Spain. Half the size of the US? Less, I think.
I want to write but sadly my brain is too tired. Wrote some 400 ish words earlier instead of homework. Good thing is the only homework I had today isn't due till Friday (Monday for me because I'm going to Disneyland on Fri. YAY!).
Need sleep.

Need to make better icon. Nielle, did you get that pic of the books and champagne from Google? What keyword did you use?

[28 Oct 2005|11:07pm] |
It is now three days till NaNo starts, and I still haven't done even half of what I wanted to do and I have a competition tomorrow so I'm going to be gone all day so that effectively leaves me with two days--less because I need to do homework and Nov 1 is on Tuesday and I have practice till five on Tuesday and I really want to start the day of--and I also want to have a 'yay it's started' party sometime between now and next weekend because, well, yay, it's started but that takes even more time out of planning and/or writing time and I just realized that while Keiran is effectively 'round', everyone else is pretty flat and one-dimensional and I really don't see how I can change that!
*deep breath*
*exhale*
I'm better now.
Problem 1: What is the average person's walking speed? Answer 1: No clue.
Problem 2: Why do the Drow let Keiran stay with them? Answer 2: Because Sauda provides them with a map to Cairnleaf, the elf capital.
Problem 3: Is Dark really Sauda in disguise? Answer 3: Damnit, I don't know!
Problem 4: I want to have an irreverent, drink-loving character. Answer 4: It's either the dwarf warlord or the dwarf battle lord. ^^
Problem 5: How do they find the third clue? Answer 5: *whimper*
Problem 6: I need to work in the merfolk, but have no idea how! Answer 6: *dies*
That's just off the top of me head! ><; Someone, please, anyone, help!
"Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody. Heeeeelp!"
Okay. *calms* I need to think here.
I just got an idea. When people used the Oregon Trail, they had to walk alongside their wagons, so the speed they went would be walking-speed. I just need to find out how long it took them, and how long the Oregon Trail was!
...
M'kay, the Oregon Trail was 2170 miles long, and it took an average of 5 months, so 150 days. That would be ~14.5 miles a day, or .6 miles per hour. ^^ Hee. After so long, I finally have an answer!
Problem 7: How fast does a horse go at a walk, trot, canter and gallop?
Problem 8: What is the average speed of a ship with sails (with the wind)?
I don't think I really need that information, though. Just in case, that's all.
Now, I wish I could have an off-the-top-of-my-head idea for the merfolk! *sigh*
On the plus side, I worked out the dwarf and elf military (such as they are).

[26 Oct 2005|10:03pm] |
I still have no idea on most of the stuff, but I've found new and improved ways of procrastinating!! Making dolls to look like my characters (gotten up to Azaelia, still don't really like any of them...). It's annoying b/c half the sites don't work.
But I did figure out why Keiran doesn't help Koji and it has nothing to do with Sauda at all! ^^ Keiran, regardless of how platonic his love for Koji was, was deeply hurt when Koji retreated into himself after their mother's death. Koji was really the only person who ever cared much about him (since he was, in the eyes of his parents and most of the people they asociated, magic-retarded, or somehow deficient). When Koji stopped showing he cared (I don't think he ever stopped caring), then Keiran decided fuck this and left with Connor. Well, and Connor was reaaaally experienced. Now that they're both after the same thing, and Koji wants his help, want him, well, KEiran's going to be all "forget it. You need my help now? Fuck you." And be on his merry way. Okay, not-so-merry way. But you get the picture.
Oh, and Connor is older than Danae. Right.
Also, Keiran and Co are going to be involved with the goblins. In what way, exactly, they have yet to reveal, but hopefully it will be unveiled in due time. As in, before Nov. 1.
I also need to find some place to work in the--ooooohhhh....YES! Right after Koji and Co find Hebi, and get the clue, the dark elves (Drow) attack Cairnleaf (elf capital city). The Drow have the power to kill anything they touch, and so are extremely dangerous. The most dangerous of the four dark races, I think. But they're also the most focussed on vengeance and killing the elves and not really the outside world.
See, the Drow are elves. They were born of two normal, regular elves. They just came out wrong. "Tainted", the elves say. (Dark hair v normal fair, dark skin v. normal fair, etc.) And the elves, being the uptight assholes they are (the new Queen is slowly TRYing and even more slowly succeeding to change that), throw the tainted ones out of their homes when they come of age and forbid them into any elvish settlement. The Drow have established a community of their own, which I need to mark and name. Recently, they've been growing more violent. Obviously, due to Dark's encouragement (possibly through Keiran and Co). Oh, yes, Dark is a subtle bastard. He could be a really fun God to work with, if I do end up writing a sequel.
And...that's about all I've done today. Story-wise.

I figured out the clues! Probably. Maybe.
Go you to the sorrows, Go you to the lake, Go you to the island, Go you to the center, And find you Negaishi. (And find you the wishing stone)
I'm debating having it in Japanese (the old language barely anybode remembers). But then how would they find out what the clues mean?? *sigh*

[26 Oct 2005|12:11pm] |
Okay, I've figured out my issues with the Fae city. The city is actually going to be in the shadows of an ancient castle (now mostly gone except for a few pillars, ledges and the mural wall). The mural wall is going to be the only thing that has actually survived.
Now, though, I need to sit down and figure out how the hell they're going to interact with the merfolk and how they're going to find Tora and the third clue.
I have to figure out what the clues themselves will be.
I have to figure out why Keiran isn't HELPING Koji since he's made it very obvious that he loves his brother tons (and not just in the platonic sense of the word, though I'm still debating that part). I have this feeling it has something to do with Sauda, but why Keiran would listen to her (his dislike for her borders on loathing) is is a mystery. Or, maybe, because he doesn't want to be near Koji b/c it's too painful...
I have to figure out the basic layouts of each town/city, name the remaining towns, and think of the rulers' personalities.
I have to find out what a fit person's average walking speed (in miles per hour) is.
I need to give dimensions to Egalia and a rough estimate of square mileage of the capitals.
I need to find some way to work in Keiran, Connor, and Sauda a lot more. I'm thinking I could alternate chapters in Koji and Keiran's POV (3rd person limited), but then I'd have to think of a whole storyline for Keiran and SHIT I don't know if I have that long.
I need to get into the head of each of my characters. I know Keiran pretty well, but Koji, Azaelia and Danae are virtual mysteries. So are Sauda and Connor.
I need to finish the character profiles for Sauda and Connor.
I need...
...to go. Lunch's over.

Oh, and I have issues with the Fae city, since the race are all six inches tall or less. v.v;
Yeah.

|
[21 Oct 2005|11:27pm] |
I'm sorely tempted to make Sauda the God Dark masquerading as a human.
See, the other Gods withdrew from the land (which is tentatively named Egalia), and they punished Fire for going against them, when really it was all Dark. So, I'm thinking, Dark wanted to make his own race (the goblins), but he created them without the other Gods knowing. Basically, yes, the Gods don't really pay attention to Egalia any more, but Dark still wants to screw things up. Oh, and the "he" (tho they're really asexual) are Fire and Dark, and the "she" Gods are Water, Wind, Earth and Light. The male Guardians are Hebi and Tatsu, and the female Guardians are Sagi, Tora and Kitsune.
I'm pretty sure there isn't going to be any romance. Um, yeah. Well, okay, obviously something between Connor and Keiran, but that's about it. I am somehow not really sad about that fact, tho Heather and Richard being all gf/bf during the game kinda makes me want to...Nope, not really.
I have no idea what's going on in the south, but other than that, the plot is almost fully fleshed. *rereads* That sounds wrong.
Okay.
Characters: 7 and climbing Deaths: zero Revert-to-infancy: one Plot: 80% done Sanity: 50% (and it's not even November!) Caffine intake: normal
Whee, and a fun little banner I did. Procrastinating on novel planning AND homework *gasp*.

| Rambling |
[20 Oct 2005|01:11pm] |
Okay, the order in which Koji is going to find the Guardians is: North (Hebi), East (Sagi), South (Tora), and West (Kitsune).
I'm a little less than half-way through fleshing out the plot and all I know about my evil dudes and dudette is that Connor absolutely CANNOT kill, Sauda's a bitch, and Keiran's going to turn into a little kid. Wow, deep.
*bangs head on desk*
Somebody, help me, please! I'm no good at creating badguys who seem human. Except for Sauda, who I could really care less about, I don't want them to be caricatures. I really don't.
Oh, and Connor can control plants. Kinda like a Kurama-chara, cept he's half-snake. Yeah, Hebi and some random human woman. Oh, and Connor really does love Keiran. ^^ And Keiran really does love Connor, tho I don't think either of them realize how deeply they care for one another.
Oh, and I was reading about failsafes (things to boost word-count, also known as padding) on the NaNo forum. I realized I inadvertently made myself one: Danae. She babbles on and on and on if there's someone to listen. Yayness! That and super-uber-detailed descriptions should help me with my word-count.
FIFTY THOUSAND WORDS!!!
*deep breath*
I'm okay now.
*whines* Why can't it be November already??
